Megan Karas is an experienced therapist and mental health consultant. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Guelph-Humber, and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Windsor. Megan started her career in children’s mental health treating kids, teens, and families with complex mental health concerns. She gained expertise in child development and attachment-based parenting. Having completed a graduate level practicum with the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Megan gained thorough knowledge of the diverse issues affecting those recovering from injury and illness. She went on to provide private treatment for a rehabilitation company, specializing in motor vehicle accidents.
Megan views emotional challenges as a normative process of life, and takes a holistic approach to treatment. She completed an intensive training program in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), a highly effective evidence-based treatment for decreasing problematic behaviour and increasing a person’s global functioning. DBT is a form of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and draws from the Zen philosophy, teaching clients to live in the here and now, and cope with worries more effectively. Megan’s style of therapy resonates with her personally, as she has been an avid yoga and meditation practitioner for the past decade.
